Meet the Author

Shirley Vaughn-Hammond, a former first grade teacher, was born and raised in North Carolina and has had a love for writing poetry since childhood. Along the way, she has also created several plays, a children’s storybook and song lyrics. After three decades in the classroom, Shirley was called to write for the Lord and obeying God’s calling, she gracefully bowed out of teaching and retired in 2002. Today her joy springs from serving and growing in the Lord, and her writing is a significant part of that joy. Her favorite place to be is her church—Commitment Community Church (Lindenwold, NJ)—where Christ is the focus, prayer the furnace, and God’s Word the guide for living and serving the Lord. She loves the hush and simplicity of country life. Her husband died in 1999.

"With the decline of the family and family values, increase in the divorce rate, abortion, drugs and alcohol addiction, rampant sexual promiscuity, teen pregnancy, the desire for instant gratification, etc., the world is decaying around us and nobody in the secular world has come up with a legitimate answer. I believe the answer lies in God's Word. But I realize that people, even many Christians, shy away from reading the Bible. I think poetry not only expresses, but it impresses and unites the reader with the emotions of the writer. I believe that through its verses of creative rhyme and thoughts the reader will be moved to be set free to know truth. This book is significant to me because it serves as an avenue to help the reader take his or her first step on the road to meeting God. It serves to plant the seed in the hearts of its readers and help take them to the next important step -- reading the Bible daily as a guide for life here on earth in preparation for eternity and receiving salvation -- accepting Christ as Lord and Savior."
